Hurford, Peter (1930- )

English organist and composer. He studied at the Royal College of Music in London and at Cambridge University. From 1958 he gave concert tours of Europe, the USA, Australasia, and Japan. He was master of the music at St Albans 1958-78, and visiting artist-in-residence at the Sydney Opera House 1979-82. His broadcast series include the Bach chorale preludes for the BBC in 1994, and his recordings include the complete organ works of Bach, Couperin, Handel, and Hindemith. He was awarded an OBE in 1984.
