Hurt, William (1950– )

US actor. He made his film debut in Altered States (1980), and won an Academy Award for his portrayal of a homosexual inmate in a South American prison in Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985). He also starred in The Accidental Tourist (1988), A.I. (2001), Tuck Everlasting (2001), The Tulse Luper Suitcases: The Moab Story (2003), and The Blue Butterfly (2004).

Hurt featured in a string of critical and commercial successes throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including Body Heat (1981), The Big Chill (1983), Broadcast News (1987), Smoke (1995), and Jane Eyre (1996). He also starred in the television film Master Spy: The Robert Hanssen Story (2002).
