Huston, John (Marcellus) (1906–1987)US film director, screenwriter, and actor. An impulsive and individualistic film-maker, he often dealt with the themes of greed, treachery in human relationships, and the loner. His works as a director include The Maltese Falcon (1941), The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), The Asphalt Jungle (1950), The African Queen (1952), and The Dead (1987). Huston's other films include Key Largo (1948), Moulin Rouge (1952), Moby Dick (1956), The Misfits (1961), Fat City (1972), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), and Prizzi's Honor (1984). He himself gave bravura performances in The Cardinal (1963) and Chinatown (1974). He won Academy Awards for his screenplay and his direction on Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and his father Walter Huston won the Best Actor award for his performance in the same film.
