Huston, Walter

Huston, Walter (1884-1950)

Canadian-born US actor. His career alternated between stage acting and appearances in feature films. He received critical acclaim for his Broadway performance in Desire Under the Elms (1924). In 1948 he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Treasure of Sierra Madre.

Huston was born in Toronto, Canada and worked as an engineer before choosing a theatrical career. He was the father of director John Huston and grandfather of actor Anjelica Huston.
