Hutchings, Arthur

Hutchings, Arthur (James Bramwell) (1906–1989)

English writer on music and composer. He was the author of books on Schubert, Mozart's piano concertos, Delius, and the Baroque concerto. In 1947 he followed Bairstow as professor of music at Durham University, becoming professor at Exeter University from 1968 to 1971. He published Mozart: The Man, the Musician in 1976, and Purcell in 1982.

O quanta qualia, or Heart's Desire (Abélard) for double chorus, orchestra, brass band, and organ; motets and other church music; works for string orchestra.
