Huxley, Julian Sorell (1887–1975)

English biologist, first director general of UNESCO, and a founder of the World Wildlife Fund (now the World Wide Fund for Nature). He wrote popular science books, including Essays of a Biologist (1923). He was knighted in 1958.

Huxley was educated at Eton and Oxford. He became professor at the Rice Institute, Texas 1913–16, professor of zoology at Kings College, London 1925–27 and Fullerian Professor at the Royal Institution 1926–29.
