Hviezdoslav (1849–1921)

Slovak poet, dramatist, and translator. He wrote the pacifist Krvavé sonety/Sonnets of Blood 1919, the two-part chronicle Ežo Vlkolinský 1890 and Gábor Vlkolinský 1897–99, and his Christian verse narrative Hájnikova žena/The Gamekeeper's Wife 1884. He also translated many authors into Czech, including Shakespeare and Goethe. He was influenced by his contemporary Jaroslav Vrchlický.
