Hvorostovsky, Dmitri (1962- )

Russian baritone. He sang with the Kirov Opera in 1987 and won the 1989 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. He made his London debut at the Wigmore Hall in 1989 with songs by Tchaikovsky, and performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1982, as Riccardo in I puritani. He sang Yeletsky in The Queen of Spades at Nice in 1989 and at Paris (Châtelet) in 1992. He made his US debut as Germont at the Chicago Lyric Opera in 1993. He is also a distinguished recitalist.
