IBM-compatible

    0.02 sec.

IBM-compatible

In computing, a clone of an IBM PC; synonymous with PC-compatible.

Although there were successful personal computers before the PC, IBM set the most common standard for these machines when it launched the PC in 1981. It created a clone industry by using readily available parts in the IBM PC, instead of developing proprietary parts itself. The success of the PC established Intel processors and Microsoft software as industry standards.
