international classification of disease

In medicine, classification system for all known diseases and syndromes devised by the World health Organization. Diseases are subdivided according to the system they affect and to the type of disease and each is given a code to facilitate computerization. Classification of diseases allows the use of a uniform terminology and comparisons of data on an international basis.
