ICQ

Software system created by Mirabilis Ltd that enables Internet users to locate one another online so that they can chat or exchange messages. Both users must run the software for the system to work. By 2002, ICQ had been taken over by America Online (AOL), which had also developed its own instant messaging (IM) software. Similar products include AOL Instant Messenger, Google Talk, MSN Messenger, Skype, and Yahoo Messenger.
