IJmuiden

Port in the province of North Holland, the Netherlands, 10 km/6 mi northwest of Haarlem; population (2006 est) 14,800. IJmuiden stands at the end of the North Sea Canal, a waterway leading to Amsterdam, of which it is an outport. There are fisheries and chemical industries.

This reflected the combination of: higher selling prices (inclusive of exchange rate gains from a weaker pound against the euro); increased sales deliveries; improved manufacturing performance, including the resumption of a two blast furnace operation at Port Talbot, and increased output in IJmuiden at both the steel plant and the Direct Sheet Plant; and benefits from on-going measures to improve cost efficiency.
Carbon steel costs for 2002 were adversely affected by the impact of blast furnace outages at IJmuiden and Port Talbot.
