IRQ

In computing, a request for an interrupt to be generated to allow programs and devices to function even while the computer is performing another task. A PC-compatible computer uses a series of interrupt requests numbered from IRQ0 to IRQ9, which are assigned to devices such as sound cards, mice, and serial communications ports.
