ISBN

Code number used for ordering or classifying book titles. Every book printed now has a number on its back cover or jacket, preceded by the letters ISBN. It is a code to the country of origin and the publisher. The number is unique to the book, and will identify it anywhere in the world.

The final digit in each ISBN number is a check digit, which can be used by a computer program to validate the number each time it is input (see validation).
