Iberville, Pierre Le Moyne, Sieur d' (1661–1706)

French colonial administrator and explorer in America. With his brother, the Sieur de Bienville, he led an expedition from France and established a colony at the mouth of the Mississippi River in America. In 1699–1700 they established settlements at the later sites of Biloxi and New Orleans.

Born in Montréal, Canada, Iberville joined the French navy and saw action against the English in the struggle for Canada 1686–97.
