Ice sheets off the northern coast of Denmark. Denmark borders the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, and has 7,314 km/4,550 mi of coastline.

Body of ice that covers a large land mass or continent; it is larger than an ice cap. During the last ice age, ice sheets spread over large parts of Europe and North America. Today there are two ice sheets, covering much of Antarctica and Greenland. About 96% of all present-day ice is in the form of ice sheets. The ice sheet covering western Greenland has increased in thickness by 2 m/6.5 ft 1981–93; this increase is the equivalent of a 10% rise in global sea levels.
