Ikuno

Town in Hyogo prefecture, Japan, 60 km/37 mi northwest of Kobe; population (1990) 5,700. During the Shogunate period, Ikuno had a number of silver mines. Later, copper and zinc ores were extracted. The mines, which were begun in 807, closed in 1973.
