Il Giogo Pass

    0.04 sec.

Il Giogo Pass

Pass in the Apennine mountains northwest of Florence, on a twisting road leading to Imola and the Lombardy plain.

In World War II, the US 5th Army chose this route during the battles to break the Gothic Line September 1944. US II Corps had the task of forcing the pass, assisted by a flanking attack by the British XIII Corps. The battle was fierce and II Corps suffered over 500 killed and 2,000 wounded before finally taking the pass 17 September.
