Ilmenau

Town in the Land (administrative region) of Thuringia, Germany, on the River Ilm in the Thuringian Forest, 19 km/12 mi northeast of Suhl; population (1996) 26,300. It is a health resort in a fluorspar-mining area, and was frequented by Goethe, who wrote his play Iphigenia auf Tauris here.
