Ilocos Norte

Coastal province of northwest Luzon Island in the Philippines; area 3,400 sq km/1,313 sq mi; population (1995) 483,000. The capital is Laoag. The River Laoag and other streams flow through the valleys of Ilocos Norte, and its mountains are partly volcanic; the highest point is 2,172 m/7,126 ft. Industries include livestock raising and weaving, and tobacco and rice are grown. Suba Beach, south of Laoag, is a tourist resort.
