Iloilo

Province of southeast Panay Island in the Philippines; area 5,324 sq km/ 2,056 sq mi; population (1995) 1,876,000. The capital is Iloilo City. Although mountainous in the west, Iloilo is one of the most populous provinces in the Philippines. Agriculture (two crops of rice are possible annually) and fishing are the main economic activities, together with pineapple farming.
