His grandfather was a Baptist minister, his mother was a graduate of the Baptist Missionary Training School in Iloilo City, and his father was a Baptist church leader. Jonel Saludes, an assistant professor of chemistry at the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City, the Philippines, reported that extract from the leaf of the noni plant, which grows abundantly in Hawaii, Australia, and the Philippines, contains chemicals that effectively kill even resistant strains of tuberculosis bacteria in vitro. She found herself drawn to the messages she heard at those meetings, until one momentous day, October 10, 1931, when she committed her life to Jesus Christ at an evangelistic meeting at Doane Baptist Church in Ledesma Street, Iloilo City. |
