Imbruglia, Natalie Jane (1975– )

Australian pop artist and actor. She first became known for her role on the popular Australian television soap opera Neighbours 1991–94, and later became a popular singer with the release of her hit single ‘Torn’ (1997).

‘Torn’ won several music and video awards and received the most airplay of any single in the UK ever. She followed with her debut album, Left of the Middle (1998), which also featured the title single and ‘Smoke’. Other albums include White Lilies Island (2001), featuring the single ‘That Day’, and Counting Down the Days (2005), featuring ‘Shiver’.

She grew up in Berkleyvale, New South Wales. After moving to Sydney to pursue an acting career, she began appearing in television advertisements. She joined the cast of Neighbours in a two-week guest role at the age of 17 and was so popular in the series that she stayed for two years. After leaving Neighbours she moved to London, where she began to write songs. She signed with RCA UK two years later. In 2002 she became a model for L'Oréal and returned to acting with a role in the British spy spoof Johnny English, opposite Rowan Atkinson.
