Immelmann, Max (1890–1916)

German fighter ace in World War I. He developed the ‘Immelmann Turn’, a manoeuvre in which, pursued, he would climb suddenly in a half-loop, roll, and then dive back at his pursuer. Decorated by the Kaiser January 1915, he was shot down and killed near Lens by Lt George McCubbin 18 June 1916.
