rejection

Immune response in the recipient of a tissue or organ transplant. If rejection does not respond to treatment, the donated tissue is destroyed. Immunosuppressive drugs are used to try and prevent rejection.

A drug originally devised to prevent immune rejection of organ transplants can lessen relapses in patients with multiple sclerosis, a new study finds.
In all other cases, such nuclear transfer clones contain mitochondrial DNA, derived from the cytoplasm of the ovum, that is foreign to the patient, and that would cause immune rejection in patients if injected.
As a result, immune rejection will always set a limit on the utility of these cells in medical practice.
