Inbal, Eliahu (1936– )

Israeli conductor. He studied at the Paris Conservatory and with Celibadache. He won the Cantelli Competition in 1963 and made his Salzburg debut with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969. His opera debut with Elektra was at Bologna in 1969. He was chief conductor of Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra 1974–90, and artistic director at La Fenice, Venice, 1983–86 (overseeing revivals of Donizetti's Maria di Rudenz, and Verdi's Stiffelio, with its revised version Aroldo). He played as a guest conductor in Europe and North America, and led La forza del destino/The Force of Destiny at Zurich in 1992. His recordings include the complete Mahler and Bruckner symphonies.
