Inchkeith

Barren rocky island in the Firth of Forth, forming part of Fife unitary authority, Scotland. It has an automatic lighthouse, still in use, which is visible over a distance of 33 km/21 mi. Henry VIII fortified the island after the Battle of Pinkie 1547, but in 1549 it was recaptured by Scottish and French troops. In 1881 forts were built on its headlands, linked together by military roads.
