inclusive fitnessIn genetics, the success with which a given variant (or allele) of a gene is passed on to future generations by a particular individual, after additional copies of the allele in the individual's relatives and their offspring have been taken into account. The concept was formulated by W D Hamilton as a way of explaining the evolution of altruism in terms of natural selection. See also fitness and kin selection. |
