Public holiday in the USA commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, 4 July 1776.

Ties with Britain were severed, and the ‘Fourth of July’ has become one of America's most spirited holidays. It was made an official holiday 1918 in order to foster patriotic sentiment during World War I.
