Mahé

Chief island of the Seychelles; population (1995 est) 69,400. The island, in the Indian Ocean, has an area of 153 sq km/59 sq mi, and the capital of the Seychelles, Victoria, lies on its northwest coast. The airport and the Morne Seychelles national park have helped the development of a substantial tourist industry.
