Indian Head

Town in southeastern Saskatchewan, 66 km/41 mi east of Regina, and south of the Qu'Appelle River valley; population (1991) 1,800.

Indian Head was named after a range of hills that lies just south. It was settled in 1882 in an excellent region for growing wheat, and remains an important agricultural centre, with grain elevators and flour mills. An Agriculture Canada experimental farm (established 1887) and a tree nursery are situated here.
