nasturtium

Any of a group of plants that includes watercress (N. officinale), a perennial aquatic plant of Europe and Asia, grown as a salad crop. Belonging to a different family altogether, the South American trailing nasturtiums include the cultivated species T. majus, with orange, scarlet, or yellow flowers, and T. minus, which has smaller flowers. (Genus Nasturtium, family Cruciferae; South American genus Tropaeolum, family Tropaeolaceae.)
