Infantas, Fernando de las

    0.02 sec.

Infantas, Fernando de las (1534–after 1609)

Spanish composer, descendant of the Fernández family of Córdoba. He is known by the name Infantas because one of his ancestors conveyed the infantas Constanza and Isabella to Bayonne, occupied by the English in the 14th century, before their respective marriages to John of Gaunt and Edmund Langley. His compositions attracted the attention of the bishop of Córdoba, the archduke Charles of Austria. He settled in Rome, Italy, around 1559, but took holy orders in 1584 and went to Paris, France; he had returned to Spain by 1608.

Works

motets, some for special occasions, such as the death of the emperor Charles V (1558) and the Battle of Lepanto (1571); a setting of Psalm xcix.
