British heavy tank of World War II. As well as proving to be an effective battle tank, it was also the perfect basis for conversions into specialist vehicles such as flamethrowers (as the Crocodile), bridging tanks, and engineer support vehicles.

It first saw action 1942 at Dieppe, where six were landed and lost. Six took part in the Battle of El Alamein by way of evaluation, and two brigades were used in Tunisia. Many were also supplied to the Soviet army.
