Ingatestone

Town in Essex, England, 10 km/6 mi southwest of Chelmsford; population (2001, with Fryerming and Mountnessing) 5,640. Ingatestone has a Norman church with a 15th-century tower, and Roman bricks set in the walls.

An Elizabethan manor house, Ingatestone Hall, was a refuge for Roman Catholic priests during the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century.
