Ingham County

Administrative district in south-central Michigan; area 1,450 sq km/560 sq mi, population (1990) 281,900. It is drained by the Grand and Red Cedar rivers, and has its seat at Mason.

The northeastern part of Ingham County is dominated by Lansing, the state capital, and its suburbs, where manufacturing takes place. Coal and clay deposits are found in this largely agricultural region, which produces grain, fruit, vegetables, sugar beets, livestock, and dairy goods.
