Inishowen Head

    0.04 sec.

Inishowen Head

Peninsula in the north of County Donegal, Republic of Ireland, tapering towards Malin Head, the northernmost point of Ireland. Moville is the main resort on the peninsula.

There are the remains of stone circles and court tombs here, and at Cloncha and Carrowmore, the site of a monastery, there are a number of stone crosses. Near Greencastle, a seaside resort, are the ruins of a 14th-century castle built by the ‘Red Earl of Ulster’, Richard de Burgh. There is also a fort and Martello tower (circular tower for coastal defence) here, now a hotel.
