Inouye, Shinya

Inouye, Shinya (1921– )

English-born US cell biologist. He taught and researched at the University of Washington School of Medicine 1951–53, Tokyo Metropolitan University 1953–54, the University of Rochester 1954–59, Dartmouth Medical School 1959–66, the University of Pennsylvania 1966–89, and was affiliated with the Woods Hole (Massachusetts) Marine Biology Laboratory from 1961. He made major contributions to submicroscopic cell morphology and physiology, and held several patents in optical equipment.

Born in London, he went to the USA in 1948 as a graduate student.
