ginseng

Wild American ginseng and ginkgo biloba leaf. In Western medicine, ginseng is used to promote the appetite or assist digestion, especially in conditions that arise from mental and nervous exhaustion. In China, it is used particularly to treat dyspepsia, vomiting, and nervous disorders.

Plant with a thick forked aromatic root used in alternative medicine as a tonic. (Panax ginseng, family Araliaceae.)

Asian ginseng Panax ginseng was placed on the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) Appendix 2, which controls, but does not completely ban, trade in the species. Although cultivation is widespread, the wild plant is vulnerable, particularly in Russia.
