Insubre

    0.01 sec.

Insubre

Member of a Gallic people who in the late 5th century BC crossed the Alps and settled in Cisalpine Gaul, where they built the city of Mediolanum (Milan). Shortly before the first of the Punic Wars the Romans reduced them to submission, but they regained their liberty after Hannibal's triumphant progress through Italy. In 194 BC they finally lost their independence.
