Intelsat

One of the fleet of 22 Intelsat satellites. IS-902, launched on 30 August 2001 by an Ariane rocket, was deployed over the Indian Ocean. It provides coverage for Internet and corporate network services.

Organization established in 1964 to operate a worldwide system of communications satellites. The first Intelsat satellite was Early Bird, launched in 1965. In 2001, Intelsat became a private company after 37 years as an intergovernmental organization. It now reaches about 200 countries with more than 50 satellites in orbit. Its headquarters are in Washington, DC. Intelsat satellites are stationed in geostationary orbit over the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans.
