intermediate technologyApplication of machines and other technologies, based on inventions and designs developed in the developed world, but utilizing materials, assembly, and maintenance methods found in less developed regions. Intermediate technologies aim to allow developing countries to benefit from new techniques and inventions of the ‘First World’, without the burdens of costly maintenance and supply of fuels and spare parts that in the developing world would represent an enormous and probably uneconomic overhead. Such technologies are described as being ‘appropriate’. How to thank TFD for its existence?
