ISBN| Code number used for ordering or classifying book titles. Every book printed now has a number on its back cover or jacket, preceded by the letters ISBN. It is a code to the country of origin and the publisher. The number is unique to the book, and will identify it anywhere in the world. |
| The final digit in each ISBN number is a check digit, which can be used by a computer program to validate the number each time it is input (see validation). |
