International Telecommunications Union

International organization, based in Geneva, Switzerland, which manages telecommunications standards such as modem speeds and protocols. ITU activities include the coordination, development, regulation, and standardization of telecommunications.

The ITU has two permanent standards-making committees, the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT) and the International Radio Consultative Committee (CCIR).
