Inukai, Tsuyoshi (1855–1932)

Japanese politician, prime minister 1931–32. He first achieved a ministerial position in 1898 and after a long political career eventually became prime minister in 1931. His policies angered the military and he was assassinated in an attempted coup in May 1932.

Initially a journalist, he was involved in politics from 1882 and was elected to the Diet (parliament) in Japan's first general election in 1890.
