Fair is an extensive examination of the venerable artistic traditions of twentieth century Alaska Natives, including Tlingit, Aleutian Islanders, Pacific Eskimo, Athabaskan, Yup'ik and Inupiaq artists. My background is Inupiaq Eskimo, which is the northern most tribe of Inuits in Alaska. Aboard were several Canadian scientists led by Vilhjalmur Stefansson; two Inupiaq hunters, Kataktovik and Kurraluk; Kurraluk's wife and two little daughters, Pagnasuk and Makpii; a crew of a dozen; forty sled dogs; and a cat. |
