Iorga, Nicolae (1871–1940)| Romanian historian, writer, and politician. He was for many years chief of the Nationalist Party. Tutor and friend of Carol I, he was largely instrumental in securing his return from exile and restoration to the throne. In 1931 he became premier of a non-party Cabinet. |
| Iorga was born at Botosani, Romania. He made an important contribution to the study of the history of medieval Europe and was professor of universal history at Bucharest University from 1894. His published work includes History of the Byzantine Empire (1901). He was murdered by the Iron Guard. |
