Iowa Falls

City in Hardin County, east-central Iowa; population (1990) 5,400. Iowa Falls lies on the Iowa River, 68 km/42 mi west of Waterloo. Settled in the 1850s, it produces limestone, concrete, and processed foods. The river passes through a 21 m/70 ft-high gorge here.

Iowa Falls is home to Ellsworth Community College (founded 1890), and has long been a Baptist convention centre. Iowa Falls failed in a bid to become the county seat for Harbin County.
