Ipermestra

Opera by Christoph Willibald von Gluck (libretto by Pietro Metastasio), first produced at the Teatro San Giovanni Cristostomo, Venice, Italy, on 21 November 1744. Warned by an oracle, King Danaus orders his daughter to kill her betrothed, Lynceus, on their wedding night. She cannot do it, and instead separates from him. After complications, there is a happy ending.
