Irvington

Township in Essex County, northeastern New Jersey, immediately southwest of Newark; population (1990) 61,000. Settled in 1692, it was known as Camptown until 1852.

Irvington's industrial region contains foundries and tanneries, and manufactures a wide variety of goods, including metal castings, chemicals, tools and dies, insulators, cutlery, photographic equipment, paints, building supplies, and paper and plastic products. The town also has a large residential sector.

Irvington

Village in Greenburgh town, Westchester County, southeastern New York State; population (1990) 6,300. An extremely affluent residential and commercial suburb, Irvington is situated on the banks of the Hudson River, 35 km/22 mi north of New York City.

Irvington's noted estates include the Octagon House (1860) and Villa Lewaro (1916–18), former residence of hair-care magnate Madame C J Walker. The village has also been home to the Hamiltons, Morgans, and other enormously wealthy New York families.
